Here we will look at some basics of sports betting. We will explain what is meant by an absolute bet, an each way bet, a place bet, and an enhanced win.

The most simple of bets is a win bet. Here the bookmaker offers odds on a win, for instance he might offer 6/1 that a specific horse will win a race. If you bet at these odds and your horse wins you win six times your stake and your original stake is returned, so if you have an online betting account it will be credited with £7.00 for each £1.00 that you bet.

Often it is wise to place an each way bet. This means that you are betting on the horse finishing in either the top three or top four runners. Effectively your stake is split in two. Half of it is used to create a win bet as described above, and half of it is used as a place bet at reduced odds. If you placed an each way bet for a total of £1.00 on the race above, then if the horse won you would receive the proceeds generated by £0.50 as a win bet, which would be £0.50 multiplied by the odds plus £0.50, your original stake. This is £3.50. You will also win the place part of the bet which is generally offered at ¼ odds. So you get back the other £0.50 of your stake plus ¼ times £3.50, which equals £1.37.5 making your total return £4.87.5.

If your horse finished second or third you would receive only £1.37.50 as you would lose the winning part of your bet. It is apparent that each way bet are only worth it on horses with relatively high odds.

Place bets are just the place part of an each way bet and so should need no further explanation other than to remind you to be aware that the odds are only a fraction (generally ¼) of those quoted by the bookmaker.

Enhanced win bets are offered at greater odds than simple win odds though they cannot be backed each way. If you can find them then this is a great way to bet on horses with short odds.

Compare the top bookmakers online with Onebooker today and you could win some big money on sports betting!

Being the top scorer in any league is what all Striker’s dream of. In the Premier League perhaps more than any other players who claim the top scorer award are often regarded as the best players in the division.

This year Didier Drogba is the hot favourite in the betting markets to claim the top scorer crown. The Chelsea striker has scored more than 10 goals already this season and he is in the form of his life. With players such as Frank Lampard providing the assists for Drogba there is little doubt that he will be hard to stop.

Discipline and motivation are without doubt the essential ingredients for anyone wanting to be considered as one of the best soccer player in the world. In fact these key factors are required for success in any type of career and once you possess these traits nothing can stop you on your way up the ladder.

Discipline is often a difficult thing to maintain in the face of distractions such as internet, watching TV or your favourite movies. You must be able to know when to cut off or balance your time to ensure that you have allocated adequate time to what really matters. Although a skilled manager can help the individual develop into something special, it actually takes self motivation to maintain the course.

Every professional player who is well paid did not get there by chance. It takes a lot of self denial. It may seem easy to earn such huge amounts of money from a single game, but it should be remembered that it was a long journey to get to that place.

Love for the ball and a great passion for the game are the most important elements in a successful footballer. You have to breathe and live the game and give it your all. It takes a lot of sacrifices to get to the top but it can be worth it.

While talent plays an important role, it can only be polished by discipline and hard work. You must be dedicated to the game and treat it with respect. In addition to respecting the sport, you need to respect the other team members and the coach. After all, football is a team game and above all a team effort.

Time has led to the emergence of several other great soccer players in addition to the legendry Pele and George Best. But who is it that is hailed as the best football player in the world?

If we start with Pele, he is definitely a great inspiration to many soccer fans. Everyone wants to be like Pele. His records of more than 1200 goals has not been easy to beat. Then are other legendry soccer players such as Diego Maradona. This Argentinean player is no doubt a star that left many people astounded by his onfield performance. He also began his career at a young age and is equally a great inspiration for soccer fans.

Next is David Beckham, the media magnet. He has combined his looks and talent to be one of the most expensive sportsmen of the century. Some of the things that all the above players share in common are hard work, patience, dedicated training, and discipline. They also had to go to the field in the right frame of mind, and maintain a positive attitude.

Despite these shared traits, Pele stands out as different and therefore still deserves to be called the number one player in the world of soccer. He was extremely talented and skilled at soccer. Even when his team were facing defeat, he did not give up. Pele to date has retained his disciplined life and it is he who is considered to be the greatest football player of all time.

Rarely do the club managers meet to discuss their players, not that there is anything wrong with such a meeting. But is surely more than a visit when Diego Maradona, the national team manager of Argentina meets with Pep Guardiola, the coach of Barcelona. Later, it was reported that the discussions were about protecting Messi from injuries at the crucial time of the World Cup qualifiers. The two managers took note of the fact that Barca was launching an onslaught in the next season including playing a number of friendly matches in preparation. It is also feared that a good player such as Messi may be injured in such friendly matches and miss out on the real World Cup matches.

Therefore after watching the Barca players train, Diego had a private meeting with Guardiola and Messsi. This meeting was different from other club agreements with AFA in the past. It was agreed that Messi be limited in his participation in the international friendly. This is a problem that Maradona understands all too well given that he himself once played for Barca.

Quite often, the players return from such friendly matches tired and possibly injured. This was actually what was behind the meeting between Maradona and Guardiola. This agreement may guarantee Messi an opportunity to leave a good record in Barca just as was the case with Maradona who played for the same team. Messi needs to continue in the same steps and leave an impressive record in Barca.

If you followed English football of 1960s, you would certainly remember the great George Best. He was a talented player who had one of the most successful careers in English soccer yet conversely had a seemingly frustrated personal life. His popularity on the soccer pitch simply did not match with the infamous habits of abusing alcohol and womanizing just as Paul Gascoigne in the later years.

Born on May 22nd 1946 in Belfast, a town called Cregagh, he grew up loving the game though many people dismissed him because of his small body size. When everyone else had failed to spot the potential for his career as a footballer, Bob Bishop spotted him and helped turn him into one of the most accomplished football players in more than a decade. Bishop immediately told Matt Busby that he was a genius. Signed in for trial by Man U, George turned professional after a short while.

Having started off from West Bromwich Albion at 17 years, George Best is no doubt one of the best players in Manchester United’s history. With a score of 115 goals in six seasons, and playing in working formula of a trio that included Dennis Law and Bobby Charlton, he went ahead to be voted the best European player in 1967.

Like other football celebrities such as David Beckham, distraction off the pitch such as modelling contracts, women, and personal demons led him to heavy drinking. He is famous for the infamous statement, "I spent a lot of money on booze, birds and fast cars. The rest I just squandered."

None of the modern day world cup players have ever come close to Pele’s record of 1200 goals throughout his career including several World Cup Championships. He is truly one of greatest players from 20th Century soccer.

One cannot help but notice the outstanding career of Pele even when there are other soccer icons such as Diego Maradona. Pele exceeds them all with a record of 1281 scores in 1360 games, almost 1 score per game.

His real name is Mr. Edson Arantes do Nascimento, but he was nicknamed Pele, a nickname that stuck with him since his school days. Pele was the youngest member of the 1958 Brazilian soccer team that won that year’s World Cup. He was actually just 17 years old when he scored 2 goals in the World Cup.

Coming from poor Brazilian family, Pele owes part of his success to his father who was also a soccer player. He started to shine in Brazilian soccer when he played for the Brazilian team Santos helping them win the 1962-63 intercontinental World Cup qualifiers. He was to play in the 1962 and 1966 World Cup were it not for injury. Pele’s time came in 1970 when he was instrumental in helping Brazil win the world’s biggest soccer tourament.

Even in retirement, Pele continued to pull in the crowds and this was recognized when he signed a contract with New York’s Cosmos in a bid to increase crowds by gracing the American Soccer league. His foot skills and speed were without doubt instrumental in his successful football career.
